Description

Job description:

A fabricator will produce work made from thick metal plate and structural steel sections, such as columns and beams, using a  wide range of tools and equipment.  This will contribute to projects for large scale buildings such as the Nuclear Power plant at Hinckley Point C - which is currently the largest construction site in Europe.

Principle Role & Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings 
  • Assemble components by welding them together 
  • Ensure finished welds are of a good standard and the required size 
  • Use a variety of tools, welding equipment and overhead travelling cranes 
  • Implementation and adhering to all health and safety policies and complete all paperwork relating to health and safety

Skills required:

  • Candidates must have an interest in engineering
  • Able to work as part of a team 
  • Use your own initiative and be keen to learn
  • Good communication skills

Personal qualities the candidate must have:

Someone who is keen to learn and shows a genuine interest in the built environment and the world around them. A person who wants to learn a highly skilled role, but it also keen to gain further qualifications.

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. One Friday per month you will return to your workplace.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study.  The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.



Requirements

A minimum of three GCSEs at grade 5 (or C) or above, including mathematics, English and science, technology, or engineering-related subject.

Applicants are required to successfully complete the AMRC and employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
