Description
I’m working with a well established, design led architecture practice in Edinburgh who are looking to bring an Architectural Technologist into their team. This is not a high volume, box ticking environment. The practice has built a strong reputation for delivering thoughtful, technically detailed work, with a big focus on conservation, refurbishment and high quality residential projects. A lot of what they do involves working with existing buildings – understanding them, adapting them, and improving them without losing what makes them special. As a result, this role would suit someone who actually enjoys the technical side of architecture and wants to get properly involved in how buildings come together. You’ll be working across a range of projects, supporting from early design stages through to delivery on site. There’s a strong emphasis on technical design, detailing and coordination, so you’ll be producing drawing packages, working closely with consultants and contractors, and helping to resolve the kind of issues that come with more complex, existing buildings. They’re ideally looking for someone with around 1–2 years experience working in a UK based practice. Any exposure to heritage or refurbishment projects would be a big plus, given the nature of the work. Revit experience would also be advantageous, although not essential if you’re technically strong and open to learning. What makes this opportunity stand out is the environment. This is a practice that genuinely prioritises quality over quantity. Projects are well considered, properly detailed, and not rushed out the door. You’ll be surrounded by people who care about what they produce, and who will challenge you (in a good way) to improve. You’ll be given responsibility and trust early on, but with the support of a knowledgeable team around you. It’s the kind of place where you’ll develop quickly if you’re willing to get stuck in and take ownership of your work. It’s probably not the right fit if you’re looking for a fast paced, high volume commercial environment or quick progression without putting the work in. But if you want to build strong technical foundations, work on meaningful projects, and be part of a practice with a solid reputation in its field, it’s a very good move.
